What nobody tells you
That the payout is not the order
Shopify pays you in payouts: transfers that bundle several orders, deduct fees and subtract refunds. If you reconcile the bank order by order, it never matches. In Odoo, Finance › Payouts shows each payout with its net amount paid, and the dashboard counts how many are left to reconcile.
That each payment method has its own path
What is collected through each payment gateway does not arrive the same way or on the same day. The connector lets you give each gateway a clearing journal, the bank or transit journal where those payments land. It is set under Configuration › Mappings › Payment Gateways. Without that mapping, everything ends up mixed in one journal.
That fees can be analysed
Fee Analysis breaks down what it costs you to get paid. Payment Transactions and Balance Transactions show the detail of each movement. It is the difference between knowing Shopify charges fees and knowing how much they cost you this month.

That disputes are accounting too
A dispute freezes money until it is resolved. Finance › Disputes lists them, so they do not show up by surprise in the next payout.
That none of this comes switched on
These tasks are off when you install the connector:
| Task | Frequency |
|---|---|
Create invoices (Shopify Create Invoices) | every 2 hours |
Create credit notes (Shopify Create Credit Notes) | every 3 hours |
Sync payouts (Shopify Sync Payouts) | every 6 hours |
| Refresh the finance dashboard | every 4 hours |
It makes sense: if you keep your accounts elsewhere, you do not want duplicate invoices. If Odoo is your accounting, turn them on in order: invoices, credit notes and, last, payouts.

What reconciliation looks like
Each payout goes through three states: unmatched, booked and reconciled. Refunds generate their credit note, which ends up draft, created, ignored or failed depending on the case. The Finance Control Tower sums all of that up on one screen, with what was paid out, what was refunded and what is left to reconcile.

Where to start if Odoo will be your accounting
- Give each payment gateway its clearing journal under Configuration › Mappings › Payment Gateways.
- Turn on invoice creation and review the first ones by hand.
- Turn on credit note creation for refunds.
- Turn on payout sync and reconcile the first one against the bank statement.
- From then on, the Control Tower tells you what is left to reconcile.
What stays yours
The connector does not decide your chart of accounts or your taxes. Accounts, journals and how fees are booked are set by your accountant, as today. What changes is that the data arrives on its own and complete, instead of exported by hand from the Shopify admin.
Before turning on invoice creation, check that your current invoicing program is not still creating them. Two systems invoicing the same order is the most expensive mistake on this list.
