Workflow

How does it work day to day?

Once installed, the GLS shipping process is fully integrated into Odoo. Here is the step-by-step workflow:

Set up the delivery method

In Inventory → Delivery Methods, create a new one, choose GLS ASM as the provider, and configure your credentials and contracted service (Standard, Express, etc.).

Validate the delivery order

When confirming the delivery, the module automatically calls the GLS API, registers the shipment, and retrieves the tracking number and label.

Print the label

The GLS label (PDF or ZPL for Zebra printers) is attached to the delivery order. Print it directly from Odoo without accessing the GLS portal.

Automatic tracking

The shipment status (in transit, delivered, incident) is automatically updated on the delivery order. The customer receives a notification with their tracking number.

PDF and ZPL label generation

Generate GLS labels in PDF format (for any printer) or ZPL (for Zebra thermal printers). The label includes barcode, address, and contracted service details.

Supports both the module's own package number field and Odoo's native shipping package flow. Compatible with multi-package shipments.

Real-time tracking

Automatic shipment status queries to the GLS API. Statuses (pickup pending, in transit, delivered, failed) are reflected directly in Odoo's stock.picking.

No GLS portal access needed

Scheduled pickups

Request pickups from GLS directly from Odoo with time window and address selection. The pickup confirmation is logged in the delivery order chatter.

Shipment cancellation

Cancel a shipment registered with GLS directly from the "Additional Information" tab of the delivery order, without needing to access the GLS portal.

Each GLS delivery method has a "Technical" tab showing the last API request and response. Essential for diagnosing communication errors with GLS.

Technical requirements

Odoo 12.0 to 18.0 — Compatible with all major versions.
Python: suds-py3 — SOAP library required to communicate with the GLS ASM API.
Dependent OCA modules: delivery_package_number, delivery_state (OCA/delivery-carrier).
GLS ASM Credentials: ASM API username and password provided by GLS Spain.
Test environment: GLS ASM has a test API to validate the integration without generating real shipments.
delivery_price_method (recommended) — To calculate shipping costs in real time, since the GLS API does not return prices.

Configuration in Odoo

Inventory → Settings → Shipping Methods → New
Provider: GLS ASM
Enter username, password and ASM client code
Select the contracted service (Standard, Express, Cold...)
Check "Test environment" for previous tests
Save and validate with a test delivery note

GLS in other countries?

This module is specific to Spain: it implements the GLS ASM API, which is the interface GLS uses for the Spanish market. If you operate in other European countries with GLS, separate connectors are available in OCA/delivery-carrier. Contact us.
