Odoo 19: all the new features explained

Every September, at the annual Odoo Experience event, Odoo unveils its new major version. Odoo 19 launched on September 18, 2025 in Brussels and is, as of today, the reference version for any new rollout: every module we build at FlexigoTech is built and tested on Odoo 19 -alongside 18 and 17, for clients who haven't migrated yet-. This guide groups, by area, the real changes Odoo 19 brings over earlier versions, with no padding and no invented features, and covers something a lot of people miss: Odoo 19 isn't a fixed snapshot, it has kept receiving quarterly updates since launch.

What Is Odoo 19 and When Did It Launch?

Odoo 19 is the major Odoo version that follows Odoo 18 (October 2024) and Odoo 17 (November 2023). It was officially unveiled on September 18, 2025 during Odoo Experience, Odoo's annual event in Brussels, and since then it's the version Odoo installs by default on new Odoo Online accounts and recommends for any new Odoo.sh or On-Premise rollout.

Like every major version, Odoo 19 doesn't replace everything overnight: it adds new functionality, reworks existing interfaces, and updates the fiscal localizations for dozens of countries, but it keeps the same database, the same framework, and the same app logic as earlier versions. Anyone who already knows Odoo 18 doesn't need to relearn the system to use Odoo 19.

Odoo's Release Cycle, Explained

Understanding the release cycle matters as much as knowing the new features, because it determines when updates reach you and who decides when you upgrade. Odoo ships a new major version every year, always at Odoo Experience, and gives each major version standard support -security patches and bug fixes- for about three years; after that, there's a paid extended support option for a limited additional period.

Since Odoo 17, Odoo Online has also received intermediate versions -called rolling releases- every three or four months within the same major version: Odoo 19 has already had 19.1 -January 2026-, 19.2 -spring 2026-, 19.3 -May 2026-, and 19.4 -July 2026-, each with extra improvements and fixes. This only applies to Odoo Online: if your instance runs on Odoo.sh or an On-Premise server, you stay on the major version -19.0- until you run the upgrade yourself, and you don't get those intermediate versions automatically.

The Most Relevant New Features in Odoo 19

Odoo 19 packs hundreds of changes spread across more than 25 apps and dozens of countries. Here are the changes that genuinely make a difference compared to Odoo 18, grouped by area.

AI Built Into the Workflow

Odoo 19 is the first version to weave AI across the whole workflow instead of bolting it on in one place. It ships with AI agents that read documents and take actions, an AI button in the top bar for natural-language questions -translated internally into queries against your data-, AI-assisted email drafting and chatter summaries, and lead capture from scanned business cards or livechat conversations. As AI providers, Odoo 19 adds support for ChatGPT 5.0 and Gemini on top of what it already had.

Two New Apps: Equity and ESG

Odoo 19 debuts two full apps. Equity is built for accounting firms and advisories that need to track shareholders, equity stakes, options, and valuations for the companies they manage. ESG is a sustainability app that calculates carbon footprint by scope -using methodologies like the GHG Protocol or Bilan Carbone, with database integrations such as the IPCC's-, alongside basic social metrics like the pay gap. It matters because until now this kind of calculation required third-party modules -like the ones we already offer in FlexigoTech's ESG family- and now Odoo ships it natively.

Performance and User Experience

Navigation is faster thanks to caching of data and translations during the session, dashboard elements appear without waiting for data to load, and the PWA -progressive- app adds gestures like pull-to-refresh on mobile. The Gantt view -used in manufacturing, projects, and planning- gains smart zoom, undo when rescheduling, and date previews while dragging. The overall interface has been cleaned up: redesigned dialogs, warnings shown at the top of the screen instead of pop-ups, and bulk editing with operators -+=, -=, *=, /=- on numeric fields.

Accounting and Finance

The accounting area gets one of the deepest overhauls: a new tax return feature that tracks fiscal obligations and deadlines with automatic validation, a journal creation wizard with bank and card sync right from the dashboard, simplified bank reconciliation with manual OCR correction, and payment follow-ups that can now also be sent over WhatsApp. Purchase and sales receipts have been merged with invoices and bills into a single flow.

Compliance Updates for Spain

For Spanish companies, Odoo 19 includes Bizkaia's Modelo 140, cancellation of SII submissions, Libro Diario export, a new Libro de IVA (VAT ledger) report, an updated Modelo 390, and specific adjustments for the Canary Islands' requirements. These changes matter directly to any advisory firm or business already running Odoo's Spanish localization, and they add to -not replace- the Verifactu e-invoicing obligation, which in Odoo is handled with dedicated modules like the ones we build at FlexigoTech.

Other Areas With Notable Changes

• HR and payroll: the old "Batches" are replaced by "Pay Runs", with a new guided flow; improved absence and leave management.
• Point of Sale: product grouping by parent/child variant, one-click payment validation, and allergen management for restaurants.
• eCommerce: the option to show tax-included and tax-excluded prices together on the product page, and a comparison tool redesigned for mobile.
• Project: a Gantt view now available to customers in the portal, plus project templates with predefined roles.

When Should You Upgrade to Odoo 19?

If you're already on Odoo 17 or 18, upgrading is usually straightforward since all three versions share the same recent foundation. If you're coming from Odoo 16 or earlier, the jump is bigger -there's more data structure to review- but it's still technically doable in a single migration, without hopping through each version. The clearest sign not to wait is the end-of-support date: every major version stops getting security patches roughly three years after launch, so if your Odoo installation is already a few years old, putting off the upgrade increases the risk instead of reducing it.
