In this article we put real numbers on the table — what actually drives the price, the one market benchmark we could independently verify, and the three fixed-price packages we sell at FlexigoTech.
Key point: on Odoo Online, “customizing” can mean two very different things: configuring with Odoo Studio (no code, inside your own account) or building bespoke modules (which requires Odoo.sh or an on-premise install). The price depends on which one you actually need — not just on how many hours it takes.
Before the price: what customizing Odoo Online actually means
Odoo Online — Odoo's official SaaS — blocks the installation of custom modules that contain Python code. It only allows what's known as “data modules”: packages of data and configuration with no .py files inside. In practice, that means if your Odoo runs on the standard SaaS, “customizing” means using Odoo Studio.
Once your requirements outgrow what Studio can handle, the path forward is moving the project to Odoo.sh or an on-premise install, where custom code is allowed. At that point you're no longer pricing “Studio customization” — you're pricing a development project, and it's costed differently.
Which Odoo Online plan you need to use Studio
Odoo Online has three real plans. “One Free App” (€0, unlimited users) only lets you use Studio if you pick Studio as that one app and need multi-company; the moment you install any other app alongside Studio — or Studio alongside another app — the system pushes you onto a paid plan. It's not “free, no strings attached”: it needs checking case by case.
The “Standard” plan (€11.90-14.90/user/month) includes every app, but not Odoo Studio, multi-company, or the external API. If you're on Standard and want to customize with Studio, the first step — and the first real cost — is upgrading to the “Custom” plan (€17.90-22.40/user/month), which does include Studio, multi-company and the external API.
Studio works the same way on Odoo.sh and on on-premise installs, so if you already run one of those environments for another reason, you don't need to change plans to use it.

Studio is low-code, and low-code has a ceiling. It doesn't support reliable Python logic: complex computed fields, constraints, or custom methods sit outside its real scope.
Complex scheduled automations (crons) don't behave well inside Studio either.
Customizations built with Studio can need a review pass whenever you upgrade Odoo versions, and running complex processes in production on Studio alone gets hard past a certain size.
Once robust external integrations, complex business logic, or heavily customized reports enter the picture, you need custom development on Odoo.sh or an on-premise install — standard Odoo Online SaaS blocks modules with your own code, full stop.
One important nuance: you never need to be an official Odoo partner to hire this or do it. Customizing with Studio is just configuration work inside the client's own account, with the access the client grants.
What the market actually charges: the one number we're willing to cite
Most Odoo agencies don't publish customization rates: they ask you to “book a call” and quote per project, with no reference figure at all. That makes it hard to compare anything before talking to someone.
The only real, independently verifiable price benchmark we found is from the agency Odonity, which sells fixed-price packages, not hourly time: $500 for minor tweaks (roughly 10 hours), $1,500 for multi-module customization (roughly 20-25 hours), and $2,500 or more for advanced custom development. We're not presenting this as “the market average” — it's a single verified public data point — but it does confirm a pattern: serious agencies price closed-scope packages, not hourly rate cards.
